Mortreux secures a 6-Reds medal after beating Vaitzman
Nicolas Mortreux secured France a medal from the 6-Red event at the 2023 European Championships in Albena (Bulgaria) after beating David Vaitzman (Israel) 4:1. Playing on the main table Mortreux fell behind early before turning the match around after potting the black in the third frame.
In the fifth the Frenchman made a nice green from middle distance before Vaitzman handling him the win by leaving the brown over the corner.
Israel also secured its first medal from the Championships thanks to Shachar Ruberg. Last year’s Wels Open finalist beat veteran John Farrell (Ireland) 4:0 and will face later on Sunday Harvey Chandler.
The Englishman was on fire in his quarterfinal against Peter Bullen (Belgium) firing breaks of 66 and 64 on the way to a 4:1 win.
