Leclercq and Mertens aiming for a U18 Belgian final

Belgian’s Julien Leclecrq and Ben Mertens qualified this Sunday afternoon to the semifinals of the U18 event at the 2021 EBSA European Snooker Championships at Albufeira’s Vidamar Resort Hotel.

Leclerq got the best break of the event with 137 points in frame 4 of his 4-2 win against Poland’s Antoni Kowalski in the quarterfinals and will face Hungarian Bulcsú Révész in next round.

His fellow countryman Ben Mertens got the best 4-0 facing Ireland’s Alex Currid and will battle Monday with Liam Graham for a place in the 2 p.m. final, after the Scottish win over Welsh Liam Davis by 4 frames to 1.

As there is no 3rd and 4th place match this means that Belgium already assured two bronze medals minimum at the U18 event… that can still become silver and gold in case Leclercq and Mertens get to the final.

The semis are to be played best of 7 frames Monday at 10 a.m. and the final will be at 6 p.m. the same day.
