Hull takes top spot in Group A
Finland’s Robin Hull beat Duane Jones tonight in Zielona Gora to take top spot in the group but the win certainly was a long time in the making. The match started at 4pm but at 3-3 had to be postponed as the 7pm session had to start on time.
The duo were brought back on at around 9pm and it was Hull who didn’t seem to mind the wait as he knocked in a 74 break to take the final frame and match. The loss leaves Jones on only two wins and must now beat Danny Eriksen tomorrow to guarantee his spot in the knockouts.
Group G was also finalized tonight with Shachar Ruberg beating Michael Collumb 4-2 to take the top spot just ahead of Poland’s Mateusz Bananoski on frame difference. Mateusz had beaten Vitalli Kalinin 4-0 with ease scoring heavy with breaks of 89 and 56 while in the last match in the group Roman Dietzel won 4-1 to win his third match and will finish in 4th place losing out on third to Collumb by way of their head to head match.
In group F Roy Stolk takes top spot after his 4-1 win over John Whitty while Andreas Ploner finished up in 2nd spot with Whitty 3rd and Kamil Zubrzycki 4th after his 4-0 win over Iulian Boiko where he knocked in breaks of 111 and 91 in the first two frames.
In Group E Jurgen Van Roy had to beat Robert Murphy to seal a place in the knockouts but even breaks of 87 and 82 weren’t good enough to see off the Irishman with Murphy running out a 4-3 winner to seal his top spot in the group and will be joined by Grzeogrz Biernadski (2nd) Georgi Velichkov (3rd) and Benjamin McCabe in the draw.
