Ireland 2 went out of the 2023 European Seniors Team Championships in Albena (Bulgaria) after a 5:0 defeat against Wales 1. Thomas O`Donoghue and James Darcy needed to win just a frame to go into the quarterfinals but failing to do propelled Germany to second place. Darcy was the closest to guarantee the knockout spot but lost on the black to Philip Williams.

Wales 2, however, failed to progress to the next stage after losing 3:2 to Belgium 1. It all went down to a “Winner takes it all” frame, where Peter Bullen eked a scrappy encounter against David Hooper. Belgium 1 will meet Ireland 1 in the quarters while favorites Wales 1 will face Malta 1. The othr two quarterfinals are England 2 – Malta 2 and Germany – England 1.
