Big wins put Israel and Poland 3 in charge of their groups

Israel and Poland 3 took giant steps towards quarterfinals qualification in the Men’s Team event at the 2023 European Championships in Albena (Bulgaria). Poland 3 clean swept Ireland to go top of Group D. Michal Kotiuk and Jakub Chromy didn’t manage a single break over 40 but were clinical in the safety department in the 5:0 win. The Poles need just two frames against Bulgaria 1 on Wednesday to progress to the knockout stages.

The hosts, comprised of Viktor Iliev and Velian Dimitrov, shrugged off the disappointment of the opening day loss to Ireland to beat Wales 3:2. Dimitrov was the instigator of the turnaround after winning on the black against Matthew Roberts before taking the scalp of Ben Fortey.

Both Wales and Bulgaria need four frames in their final group matches to be assured of qualification. As for Ireland they need to win big versus Wales in Wednesday and hope for some help on the other table.

Israel needs two frames form their last match to progress from Group B. Shachar Ruberg and Eden Sharav beat Belgium 4:1 with Sharav making breaks of 84 and 63 in the process.

In the other group match Ukraine bounced back after the 4:1 defeat to Israel to defeat France 2 by the same score. Shoot Out champion Iulian Boiko and Matvei Lagodzinschii had a rare half-century break in the doubles with 55.
