Snooker’s biggest gathering for 500
The 2023 EBSA European Snooker Championships provides a magical atmosphere for all those who have come to St. Paul’s Bay Dolmen Hotel to compete or just watch the matches played six sessions a day at the 16 tables settled at Malta’s venue for the event.
419 players from 40 different countries across Europe plus 39 referees and the same number of Officials from EBSA and the Malta Billiards & Snooker Association gathered at the same space during this magical two weeks until March 18th and the end of the competition at the Men’s event.
This Wednesday special attention for the end of the U16 event for the 60 competitors that started it on Monday: the 79th and last best of 5 frames final match of the U16 competition will have Bulgaria’s Maksim Kostov facing Scotland’s Jack Borwick at the table, starting at 6 p.m.
The 79 gladiators aiming for the U18 european crown are also simultaneously battling at the best of 5 frames round-robin matches this March 8th, and still to start are the U21 event for 79 competitors: the group stage was announced this day. Last bu7 not least, 177 competitors will aim to succeed Estonia’s Andres Petrov as the 2023 EBSA Snooker European Champion at the Men’s event.
In the meantime, curiosity about all this big crowd is surprising the tourists that visit St. Paul’s Bay this time of the year and the Dolmen Hotel in particular. Yoga monitor Oliwia was trying to get some new students for her class near one of the two Malta’s resort venues, wondering what was going on and what was the reason for all this very unusal excitment and massive concentration of people properly dressed for a gala ceremony… such as a snooker match at the European Championships.
At the tables, the action never stops and the outfits get some attention: that was the case of Germany’s Christian Richter and his golf style two coloured shoes. A touch of class is always welcome at the biggest annual gathering of European snooker.
