Morgan in unstoppable form
Darren Morgan produced probably the performance of the week as he stormed through to the Last 16 of the Masters. He opened with breaks of 50 and 49 in the first frame and followed that up with a superb 100 break in the second.
If that wasn’t enough he banged in a great 94 break in the 3rd and despite Murat Ayas knocking in a 40 break in the fourth frame Darren added another 83 to his list of high breaks for the tournament.
Darren will now face Rene Dikstra who defied the odds and came back from 3-0 down to England’s Graham Beardmore to win 4-3 and set up tomorrow’s encounter with the Welshman.
Another Welshman Jon Perring also had a good win this evening as her overcame Netherland’s Misja Van Vonderen. Jon will now be up against Alan Trigg (Ukraine) who had earlier beat Denmark’s Henrik Skjærup 4-1 with the help of a couple of 40+ breaks.
Ireland’s Mark Tuite struggled early on against Hungary’s Pál Vantara going 2-1 down after having won the first frame. The Irishman however leveled with the help of a 43 break and an effort of 62 put him into the lead before closing the match out 55-12 to progress to tomorrow. Mark will now play England’s Wayne Brown after he beat his fellow countryman Danny Connolly 4-2.
Another Irish player Tom O’Driscoll came out on top 4-3 after a hard fought battle with Germany’s Michael Heeger this evening. Driscoll had a 72 in second frame before Heeger took a 2-1 lead with a 65 of his own.
Driscoll then took a 3-2 lead with the help of a 41 break but Heeger took the next frame easy to force the decider. The final frame could have gone anyway but Driscoll held on for the win and he will now face Gavin Lewis from Wales in the Last 16 tomorrow. Lewis defeated Israel’s Doron Lavie 4-0.
The last two matches in the Masters Event have just finished with Ireland’s Tom Gleeson and Belgium’s Alain Vandersteen finally coming out on top after two four hour plus matches.
Gleeson had been drawn against his fellow Irish team mate Alen Matic and he had to dig deep to finally get over the line at 4-2 and will now face Belgium’s Yvan Van Velthoven. Van Velthoven had earlier beaten Lituania’s Mindaugas Maisiejus 4-1.
In the other late match Vandersteen had to fight back from 3-2 down against Welsh player Dean Thomas but won the final two frames with ease and he will now face a tough match against Finland’s Esa Oikarinen.
