Brecel wins his third Belgian mens title.
144 players qualified to compete in this years mens national championship. The first 72 players of the Belgium ranking list and 72 players from regional rankings.
In the last 144 Johan D’hondt showed good form beating Rik De Ketele 3-0 in 40 minutes. 96(40)-17, 86(56)-0 and 86(52)-12. In the last 128 2012 under 16 national champion Amedeo Durnez had a good 3-2 win against experienced player Eric Maes.
Other youngsters who had good results were Jesse Schelfhaut and Kobe Vanoppen who beat experienced players Paul Van Welssenaers and Dimitri Bury respectively by scorelines 3-0.
In the last 96 Pascal Vanderhispaillie had a good 3-1 win against Johny Moermans making breaks of 56 and 44. Michel Groessens also had a convincing 3-1 victory with breaks of 69 and 47 in his first match against Raphael Profeta.
Marc Dierens showed very good form making breaks of 92 and 63 in his first match in the last 80 against Wim Ruyts to claim a 3-0 victory. Kevin Hanssens had a convincing win against Jurgen Vandaele with breaks of 49,40 and 34 to secure a 3-0 win.
In the last 64 Jurgen Van Den Bossche faced a tough opponent in his first match against Tan Wang Chooi (Andy). Andy won the first frame making a break of 41. Jurgen then stept up a gear and won the next three frames to secure a 3-1 victory with breaks of 88 and 54 in the third and fourth frame respectively.
In the last 48 Pascal Raes faced Jurgen Van Den Bossche. Jurgen had an easy 4-0 win making breaks of 94 and 55 along the way. Both Rohnny Cleynen and Thomas Broeckx secured 4-1 victories against Jeroen Struijs and Peter De Vuyst respectively. Both Rohnny and Thomas produced high breaks of 91 and 97 respectively in their matches.
The last 32 is the round where the top 16 seeds started to play. Luca Brecel immediatly showed why he is the defending champion. With breaks of 127 and 60 he outscored Kevin Van Den Broeck to make sure of his last 16 spot after a 4-0 win. Marc Dierens kept on showing spectaculair form in beating seed number 6 Tom De Wit 4-0. Marc made top breaks of a 101 and 66. The 1990 IBSF World Champion runner up Steve Lemmens won his first match against Martijn Hamblok. Steve made breaks of 58,46,46 and 41 to win 4-1. Kevin Van Hove had a good 4-2 win over Thomas Broeckx. The 2007 European Champion made breaks of 79 and 55. Peter Bullen and Lieven Bauters shared the first two frames before the 2011 Champion knocked in a 77 in the thirth frame followed by a 111 in the fourth frame before he won the fifth to make it a 4-1 win. Jurgen Van Den Bossche showed again that his current ranking is not a reflection of his ability. He easily won 4-0 against Luc Heirewegh (11) making breaks of 61,34,82 and 69. Steve Lambrechts, the 2014 masters runner up, had a great win against David Mens. After losing the first frame Steve won four in a row to win 4-1 making breaks of 46,43,77 and 51. Multiple Champion Yvan Van Velthoven had a tough opponent in Kevin Hanssens to play at a fairly early stage. After sharing the first two frames Yvan knocked in breaks of 91 and a total clearance of 135 to go 3-1 ahead. After the interval he took the fifth to claim his last 16 spot.
In the last 16 Luca Brecel played some fantastic snooker against Rene Hemelsoet. Luca made breaks of 50,103,125,104 and 80 to claim a very quick 5-0 victory. Peter Bullen had a very tough draw in Jurgen Van Den Bossche. Jurgen went 3-0 in front making a 60 break in the third frame. Peter then replied with breaks of 80 and 82 to win four frames in a row to go 4-3 up before Jurgen won frame eight. In the deciding frame Peter got over the line to claim a 5-4 victory. Seed number 5 Tomasz Skalski had a tough opponent in Steve Lemmens. Tomasz took a 4-0 lead making breaks of 77 and 51. Steve then reacted by winning the next two frames which a break of 62 to reduce de deficit to two frames. In frame 7 Tomasz made a break of 43 to win the match 5-2.
In the quarter finals Luca Brecel was still flying. He beat Guy hendrickx 5-0 making breaks of 101,76,67 and 52. The match between Tomasz Skalski and Kevin Van Hove, the 2004 champion, turned out to be a cracking match. Kevin started with a break of 66 to take the first frame. In frame two Kevin started with a break of 36 but Tomasz won the frame clearing up with a break of 58. In frame three it was again Kevin who started with a break of 44 but Tomasz cleared with a break of 60 to go 3-1 in front. In the last frame before the interval Kevin leveled the scores making a fantastic 88 break. The next four frames where shared with a top break of 65 from Kevin to make it 4-4 before the 2004 champion managed to win the match by a 5-4 score. Jurgen Van Roy continued his good form beating Belgium number one Jurian Heusdens 5-0 and Yvan Van Velthoven was the better player against Peter Bullen beating him 5-2.
In the first semi final 19 year old Brecel got the better of Kevin Van Hove beating him 6-2. Luca made breaks of 47,40,68,38,44 and 54. The second semi final between league teammates Jurgen Van Hove and Yvan Van Velthoven turned out to be a great match. Jurgen won the opening frame with a break of 42 before Yvan won the second with a 32. Jurgen went in front again making a break of 55 before Yvan leveled again with a 74 break. After the interval Yvan made breaks of 57 and 30 to go 4-2 in front. The next two frames where shared and Jurgen managed to win frames 9 and 10 to go to the deciding frame. 44 year old Van Velthoven’s expierence showed through as he kept his nerves with a 54 break to qualify for his ninth Belgian Mens final with a 6-5 win where he will meet Brecel in the final.
In the final Van Velthoven made the best start winning the first two frames making breaks of 48 and 78. Luca turned the match around making breaks of 107,49,45 and 41to give him a 4-2 lead at the interval. After the interval Luca’s good form continued making breaks of 82,34 and 30 to give him a 6-2 lead. Although luca was only one frame away from victory Yvan showed that he is a fighter and made breaks of 56,32 and 31 winning three in a row to get back at 6-5. In frame twelve Luca knocked in a break of 60 to win his thirth Belgium Mens title.
Outstanding Wendy Jans Belgian Ladies champion for the 12th time.
Three times IBSF World champion and 6 times European champion Wendy Jans had no trouble winning her twelfth Belgian Ladies title.
In her semi final she showed to be in awesome form beating Christel Leclercq 3-0 after knocking in breaks of 65,73 and 79. In the other semi final five times runner up Cathy Dehaene had a tough 3-2 win against Iris Moyens after being 2-0 behind.
Wendy started the final with a break of 34 to get 1-0 up. In the second frame she was struggling a bit and needed 2 snookers on the brown. She got them and managed to win the frame with a crazy double on the black. In the third frame Wendy immediately knocked in a break of 48 to get 3-0 in front. A break of 30 in the fourth frame was enough to win the match 4-0.
Hemelsoet wins Belgian over 50 title in first attempt.
In the masters over 50 we had a total of 40 players who qualified to compete in the national championships.
In the quarter finals four times and defending champion Andre Slegers had a difficult match against Eddy Douwen. Andre won 3-2. Patrick Werrebroeck, who made the tournament higbreak of 60 in the previous round, lost 3-1 against Aurelio Ginefra. Daniel Bungeneers won his match against William Baele 3-1 and in the last quarter Rene Hemelsoet won by the same scoreline against Marc Vandebussche.
In his semi final against Aurelio Ginefra Andre Slegers won the first frame to go 1-0 up before Aurelio made it 1-1 with a break of 41. Andre then won the next two to get into the final for the seventh time in a row where he will meet newcommer Rene Hemelsoet who beat Daniel Bungeneers with a 3-0 result.
In the final Andre slegers started well to win the first frame. Rene Hemelsoet then showed he class by winning the next four to win the match 4-1. (59-17,34-64(55),1-78,21-63,26,55)
Jacobs makes it 2 in a row in the Belgian Under 21 Championships.
In the under 21 national championships 24 players qualified to compete at the final venue.
Defending champion and top favourate Jeff Jacobs started well in his opening match against Brecht Cox winning 3-0 with a break of 77 in the second frame. National number 4 Dennis Deroose lost his first match against Jan Corten; both players recently played in the under 21’s in Bucharest. Jan won the first two very tight frames to get 2-0 in front before Dennis hit back with a 55 break to take the next one and make it 2-1 before Jan comfortabily took the fourth frame to finish the match 3-1. Seed number two Amedeo Durnez lost his first match after a real thriller in the deciding frame against Wesley Pelgrims.
In the quarter finals Jeff Jacobs and Sybren Sokolowski had no problems beating there opponents Matthias De Wit and Jesse Schelfhaut 4-0. Jan Corten extended his good run winning against seed number 5 Kobe Vanoppen with a 4-3 result and Wesley Pelgrims gave Dimitrios Kouklous no chance at all beating him 4-0.
In the semis 13 year old Sybren Sokolowski managed to get 2-0 in front against Jeff Jacobs before Jeff made it 2-2 after scoring breaks of 54 and 52. After the interval the national number one won the next three frames fairly easily to secure a 5-2 win and claim his spot in the final. In the other semi 17 year old Jan Corten won 5-4 against Wesley Pelgrims after a marathon match.
In a very long match Jan Corten won the first frame before defending champion Jeff Jacobs won the next three frames making twice a 37 break to go 3-1 up. After the interval Jan won the first two frames with a break of 53 in frame 6 to level the scores at 3-3. Jeff produced a break of 47 in frame seven to take the lead again. Both frames eight and nine where close but won by Jeff to win the match 6-3.
Wesley Pelgrims successfully defends under 16 title.
In the under 16 national championships there where 21 participants.
In the quarter finals defending champion Wesley Pelgrims had no problem winning against seed number 8 Dimitrios Kouklous with a 3-0 result. National number 2 Kobe Vanoppen easily beat seed number 4 Jesse Schelfhaut by the same scoreline (10-58(33), 0-137 and 42-63). The 2012 champion Amedeo Durnez had a tough match against Sybren Sokolowski. Amedeo lost the first frame on the black despite a 41 break. he then went on to win the next three frames to claim a 3-1 victory. In the last quarter final Michiel Kelchtermans showed good form beating two times runner up Michael Hulsbosch 3-0 making a top break of 55.
In the first semi final Wesley Pelgrims secured his final spot after beating Kobe Vanoppen 3-2 in a very close match. Amedeo Durnez won his semi final with a 3-1 result against Michiel kelchtermans. He made the tournament high break of a 68 in this match.
In the final Pelgrims was too good for Durnez as he beat him 4-0 with a high break of 54.
Bullen and Lemmens Belgian Doubles Champion once again.
The national championship doubles is the only category where everyone can enter as there is no qualification criteria. As usual it was a big success, a total of a 137 teams entered the competition. Some interesting players teamed up together. Defending champions Luca Brecel and Jurian Heusdens split up. Luca decided to play with Benny Hesemans (his teammate in the league) and Jurian teamed up with 6 times Belgian Champion Bjorn Haneveer. The European and world master team champions runners up Mario Van Herk and Alain Vandersteen teamed up, 6 times event winner Peter Bullen teamed up with 2 times winner Steve Lemmens
The line up for the quarter finals showed some interesting matches. Brecel/Hesemans faced tough opponents in national under 21 champion Jacobs and Tan Wang who defeated Buteneers/Skalski in the last 16 with a 3-0 result. Luca made breaks of 89,49 and 85 to make it a 3-0 win. Dhoore/Durnez who won 3-1 against Poulain/Wensch in the previous round had a very hard draw playing Bullen/Lemmens. Peter and Steve won the match with a 3-0 result. Hanssens/Van Velthoven won 3-2 against Yvan’s league teammates Van Roy/Raes. Corten/Tardie against Moermans/Pauly who had un unexpected 3-2 win over Heusdens/Haneveer in the last 16 completed the draw. Moermans/Pauly went 2-0 up before they lost the next three frames to lose the match 3-2.
In the semis Hanssens/Van Velthoven won the first two frames against Corten/Tardie after Kevin made breaks of 47 and 66 before they lost the third frame on the black. Yvan and Kevin then won the next two to finish the match with a 4-1 Result. In the other semi final Luca/Hesemans started very strongly getting 2-0 in front after Luca made breaks of 96 and 36. Breaks of 31,31 and 38 in the next three frames where enough to give Bullen and Lemmens a 3-2 lead. In frame six Steve Lemmens finished the match in style after making a break of 113, the highest break in the double competition.
In the final Lemmens/Bullen started the match with a 3-0 lead making breaks of 34,34 (Steve) and 54 (Peter). In the fourth frame Van Velthoven made a 71 break to get back to 3-1. The next 2 frames where shared to get to 4-2. In frames seven and eight breaks of 34(Hanssens) and 50(Van Velthoven) where enough to level the scores at 4-4. In the deciding frame Bullen made a 30 and a 53 break to finish the match 5-4. Peter and Steve teamed up together before when they won the event back in 2001.
Biljart Lounge wins Belgian Team Championships
In the quarter final of the teams championship defending champion De Leug won 10-6 against Zuma. Biljart Lounge won with the same result against Mister 100. Westbury lost their match against Cue Aiming 8-10 after being 8-7 in front. Jeff Jacobs made a 51 in his last frame and Steve Lambrechts won his last frame with a break of 66. Jurgen Van Den Bossche(Westbury) made the highest break of the match in frame nine with a 106. SC Shooters won their match against Snookerpalace after a real thriller with a 10-9 result. Eduard Raes won the deciding frame against Yannick Poulain.
In the semi finals De Leug went 2-1 behind against SC Shooters before De Leug leveled at 3-3 after making breaks of 47(Yvan Van Velthoven) and 91(Jurgen Van Roy). Shooters then won four of the next six frames to go 7-5 in front with a top break of 86 of Steve Lemmens in frame 12. In the last six frames Van Velthoven beat Tim Van Goubergen 2-0 making a break of 74 to give De Leug another two frames. Steve Lemmens did the same thing for SC Shooters against Jurgen Van Roy making a 70 and a 52 break. Pascal Raes(De Leug) and Eduard Raes(SC Shooters) shared their two frames to make it a 10-8 win for SC Shooters. In the other semi final Biljart Lounge started very strong to get 5-1 in front against Cue Aiming. In frame 7 a 41 break of Alain Vandersteen(Biljart Lounge) was not enough to win the frame as Jeff Jacobs replied with a break of 83 to make it 5-2. In the next frame Alain made an excellent break of 101 to put Biljart lounge 6-2 in front. They shared the next four frames before Rohnny Cleynen made a 64 break to go 9-4 up. Vandersteen then won frame 14 to give Biljart Lounge a spot in the final.
In the final Biljart Lounge got 7-2 up making breaks of 72,41,37,34,33 and 31 before SC Shooters won the next three frames making breaks of 52 and 35 to come back to 7-5 and later to 8-7. In frame sixteen Rohnny Cleynen made a 77 break against Tim Van Goubergen to extend their lead to 9-7. Lemmens won the next frame against Vandersteen to pull one frame back and make it 9-8. In an exiting eighteenth frame Laurens De Staelen managed to get Biljart Lounge over the line to make it a 10-8 victory.
19th Belgian Wheelchair Champion title for Kurt Declerck.
48 year old Kurt Declerck who has already three world and four European championship titles had no problem winning his 19th Belgium Championship Wheelchair title.
He won the final against Michel Cant with a 3-0 result. (65-26,68-20,55-9)
