New EBSA Coach Qualifies

Last week Head of EBSA Coaching PJ Nolan held a EBSA Coaching Course on behalf of the European Billiards & Snooker Association to train Francisco Rodríguez from Spain to become an Official EBSA Snooker Coach on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of July.  

Three Day Course

The Spanish Snooker Association had nominated Francisco to travel to Ireland to complete the EBSA three-day intensive Coaching Course, which is only open to recognised coaches who are approved by their own National Governing Body.

The course was held in the SBI Snooker & Billiards Academy of Excellence in Carlow. PJ said ‘’It was great to train Francisco as he has great passion to help grow the game in Spain.

Francisco is also an International snooker player who has competed at many European and World Championships. The EBSA are delighted to have another EBSA coach join our EBSA team and help the EBSA grow the game all around Europe.

Syllabus

The EBSA Snooker Coaching syllabus includes a practical exam as well as verbal and written exams covering all the techniques and skills of coaching the game of snooker.

This Coaching course covered all aspects of the game from Planning Sessions, Designing Routines, Role of a Coach, Sports Psychology, Rules of the Game, Practice Exercises, Written Records, Safety Play, Shot Selection, Oral Assessment, Preparation for Match- Play, Physical and Mental Etiquette and on the final day they completed the EBSA coaching written exam.

New Training Program

Francisco will create a training program and a coaching manual in Spanish to help train and guide the players. Francisco will now begin his probation period where he will complete all the necessary assignments to graduate in becoming a fully accredited EBSA Coach later on this year.

The EBSA have now 97 registered EBSA Coaches approved by the NGB from 30 countries with full EBSA accreditation promoting the game all around Europe which goes well for the future of the game all across Europe.

PJ thanked Francisco for traveling to Ireland. He thanked (SBI) Snooker & Billiards Ireland for hosting the course and to EBSA President Maxime Cassis and the EBSA Board for approving the course.

WPBSA

Francisco will also need to attend a one day online WPBSA seminar on Child Protection with WPBSA head of Coaching Chris Lovell. Following this he will receive equivalent grade of WPBSA Level 1 Coach so he can begin a pathway to level 2 WPBSA Coach.

Next EBSA Course

The Next EBSA Coaching Course will be held in Portugal during the EBSA Snooker Championships from the 16th to 18th of October at the Vidamar Hotel.

To apply to attend this EBSA Coaching Course each Coach must ask their own National Governing Body to write to the EBSA nominating them to attend a course as only NGB’s nominated coaches can attend.
