Late comer Milne first into the Last 16
Gary Milne was close to being docked a frame for a late arrival but in the end, he became the first player into the Last 16 of the 2023 European Senior individual Championships in Albena (Bulgaria). The Englishman beat Simon Cooke (Northern Ireland) 3:0 and will face the winner of Joris Maas – Hans Nirnberger match.
Despite coming to the arena at the last minute and without a proper warm-up, Milne wasted no time winning the first frame with a brake of 39. Cooke’s potting was off the whole match and the Irishman scored 83 points in total during the match.
Meanwhile, in the Round of 36 James Darcy (Ireland) punished Nick Tielemans’ numerous mistakes to beat the Dutchman 3:0 and book a match against Philip Williams (Wales). Tielemans kept in touch in all three frames but his rapid style of play backfired as he missed easy pots on the colors.
